Serving Survivors

Church leaders often ask how they can help a woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition to quilting prayer blankets and weaving caps for chemo patients, here are ten ways to care for women with breast cancer using The Breast Cancer Journey as a ministry tool.

1) Give copies of The Breast Cancer Journey to people in your church, and invite them to pass on a book as gifts to their friends or family who have been touched by breast cancer.
2) Have the author of The Breast Cancer Journey speak at a service or special event, and/or conduct a book signing.
3) Host a Color Me Pink women’s event during the month of October and use books as a giveaway or drawing for those who attend.
4) Sponsor a sporting event to increase breast cancer awareness, and give books away to those in attendance. Breast cancer doesn’t only affect women; men are also diagnosed and may be in need of your support.
5) Host a women’s Pamper-Me-Night with free massages, facials, food, manicures, pedicures, giveaways, fellowship, etc. on or around Valentine’s Day, especially geared toward loving on survivors of breast cancer.  Invite the author to come and speak or sign books at your event.
6) Incorporate The Breast Cancer Journey in a small group as the text for discussion and support.
7) Purchase copies of The Breast Cancer Journey from the author at a discount, then sell them in your bookstore. Or purchase some copies of the book for your church library.
8) Connect with your local PTA and let them know the church has a free resource for mother’s who have breast cancer; give these women a copy of The Breast Cancer Journey. While you are at it, offer free childcare for young mothers when they go to treatment, or need to rest.
9) Sponsor an information night for the spouses to provide education and support, giving away books to those who attend.
10) Bring a team to support a local cancer event, e.g. Susan G. Komen or Avon Walks, and give away copies of The Breast Cancer Journey at your tent.
